There will always be an argument for and against school uniforms. But despite the uniforms rob children of their individuality and wasting time staff in the application of dress codes established, I am in favor of school uniforms for four main reasons
1. The same uniform is a source of identity and provides a sense of belonging. For many children, who believe that their school of choice is a kind of achievement, a school uniform is a sign of inclusion, to boast about, you feel proud and feel empowered wearing it. There’s nothing like having the opportunity to wear the uniform of a school that one always admired and wanted to attend. I remember when I was a sixth former I was particularly thrilled with my uniform, and it was a bit different from the rest of the school. The little straw hat tilted clearly in my head, that only older students could use, he told the world that was in the latter. In the world of teenagers growing up as silly demarcations, especially in the absence of designer brands, has helped us to feel more adult. Other colleagues had to give due respect too and we liked that exclusion as a privileged group.
2. A uniform immediately dispenses with the child’s need to worry about what to wear each day. It also relieves parents of having to spend a lot of money to help children keep up with the neighbors of the school in today’s fashion and style. Rivalry is reduced wear and less well at least allows children to feel included and equal with friends and classmates rich. I came from a poor family because my father died the year they started high school. My uniform was not only smart and intelligent, but saved me from having to wear the same clothes over and over a week. My mother, now a single mother with four mouths to feed, could not afford to buy clothes too much. The uniform became a godsend. Despite many days I also could not afford lunch, no one knew because I looked and acted differently on everyone else. I was very proud of what I was having the opportunity to go to one of the grammar schools of Jamaica’s most famous, and I felt totally accepted by my friends and classmates.
3. The uniform allows a sense of unified purpose for development, particularly in competition with other establishments. If no one could say it was a part of your team because they all had what they wanted, would not lead to such support and fierce loyalty. But the particular school uniform that marks the territory and affiliation and offers a great sense of purpose, pride and mutual support among team members. It is also a great feeling when you win even over another!
4. A group of children in uniform, especially one with a long tradition, it seems much more intelligent and attractive than in individual style. The overall effect of a uniform that represents a particular history, ethics, philosophy and objectives, such as Eton and Harrow in England, continues to draw admiring glances and good will which we aspire. That is likely to cost much less than having to keep a closet day, gaining too much.
For children who can afford lots of clothes, one would think that the uniform would be superfluous, to some extent. However, there are very few children, like me, who would not appreciate a uniform, clearly reinforces its parity with others and their sense of belonging to a wider community reassurance.
